Day 30 — Telara Plains Drifter

Just spent the evening getting reacquainted with the MMO Rift - Plains of Telara, and my Rogue Saboteur elf lady. It's been 7 months since I last played so I don't know what I'm doing! Without any other ideas of what to draw, here's a quick sketch of the aforementioned saboteur that I drew on my iPad.

Day 28 — Not that super

Thought I might have a go at the OzComics drawing challenge. Didn't finish. Let's call it a work in progress. Even if I finish it, I think I still have to do a different drawing tomorrow. Thems the made up by me rules!

Day 27 — Goblin Pride

I went a bit crazy with this one in Adobe Ideas - especially the eraser to play with line shapes so it looked like I had a pressure sensitive tablet instead of a boring old iPad stylus. Happy with how this little monster turned out!

Day 26 — Office Girl is in the Office

Tried a lunch time iPad Adobe Ideas session. Went for simple, in an attempt to be quick. I also wanted to actually finish something too. So, failed a bit in regards to quick, but it is simple, and I did finish. Two out of three ain't bad.

And it's many many hours until my end of day deadline. Hah!

Day 25 — Vaguely Fan Art…

…of Katarina from Dungeon Siege III, which I've started playing (I'm on the pulse of games from 3 years ago!). And it's only Katarina because she has a rifle and a corset, all other similarity ends there. It's more Adobe Ideas shenanigans - it's a pretty cool app, and I've found the bit where you can make any old colour. I'll keep practicing on it for a week or two's worth of drawings, see what floats to the top.

Goodnight!

Day 24 — Blue Lou

Man, I spent ages playing around in Adobe Ideas tonight. First I tried to do a web comic strip. That wasn't working. Then I tried a city-scape, but should have used a more painty app. Then I did this alien at the last minute. The good thing about aliens is that you can get anatomy wrong all you like.

Day 23 — British Gent

Going out for a lovely evening kind of cuts into drawing time! But got this done in 10 minutes before I left the house. Not quite a stick figure, so I still have that to fall back on. Quick, hit Publish before it's tomorrow!

Day 22 — Elven Warrior lady in technicolor!

Did the rough sketch early, then decided to have a play with Adobe Ideas on the iPad to ink it, and then, what do you know, colour too! But now it's bedtime, so I'm giving up before it's done.

Adobe Ideas has a limited palette to choose from, but it does come with an eyedrop colour picker thingy, so might try adding a swatch "photo" or something as a layer the next time I give it a go. If it output to SVG, that would be the absolute BEST!

Day 21 — Apocalypso

Have been watching Falling Skies, and decided to draw a survivor of some apocalyptic event. Only with bad proportions.

Excelsior!

Day 20 — A Cast of Thou.. Four

Not sure where I was going with this. Characters for a web comic with no story. Well, the girl on the left was like 30-40% of a previous idea, and then some sidekick characters, including a crappy version of me. Yeah, that whole concept took a turn. Like milk a week after its expiration date. But it's not like I'm about to draw anything else tonight, so, BAM!

Monday, June 18, 2012

Day 19 — Avast!

Had a play with a different perspective. And what do you know, a pirate appeared! Then a ship of sorts. Then scurvy. And all hands died. Except the pirate woman who had a secret stash of fruit roll-ups. Gosh I don't know, what's with all the questions??

Day 18 — Swashed a Buckle

Even though I'm still keeping up a drawing a day, I feel guilty for the 4 panel comic inking I didn't work on this weekend. Oh well, here's some random strangeness!

Saturday, June 16, 2012

Day 17 — Just axe me how

Watching Wrath of the Titans and taken a bit by Andromeda's armour, in that it wasn't overly booby. But I didn't draw the armor from the front. And I added a rams horn helmet. And it's out of proportion. And I added some figures off to the side for fun.

Woo!

Day 16 — Elf lady lady chair goblin demon-star elf

The title pretty much says it all.

Heart wasn't really in it tonight - penciled a 4 panel web-comic trial too, and so quickly scribbled something for the daily drawing. Plan on "inking" the comic test with Inkscape to trial a SVG (vector) output. Seems fitting to try a comic again when Supernova is on this weekend. Although last weekend would have been better…

Day 15 — Totally Wizard

See?

Is he creepy-waving or casting a spell? Who can know the mysterious mysteries of a conjurer of the dark energies of magic, with or without a "k"?

Wednesday, June 13, 2012

Day 14 — Imagineering

This one looks bad, I know - the near naked warrior woman. And I've certainly drawn similar in the past. But I'm entertaining thoughts of a web comic of a random nature, and one of the ideas, well, I don't want to give it away. So I'll just lamely say that it's meant to be a parody on the bikini armor thing.

And there's other idea squiggles there too.

OH! And 14 drawings down so far. That's two weeks. And also a fortnight!

Tuesday, June 12, 2012

Day 13 — Goblins!

Ignore the lady in the armour. She turned out a bit ordinary, and she has three arms. The goblins are where it's at. Quite happy with the little chappies! The scene is probably stolen from a Wayne Reynolds Pathfinder illustration. His goblins are awesome, and I recall at least one flying through the air.

We'll call it a homage.

Day 12 — Cartoony-ish and a bit of Ripley

Watched Aliens tonight. I did an approximation of a Ripley down the bottom there. And more playing with a cartoon style, and some web comic ideas. I keep toying with the idea of doing a web comic - and certainly a drawing a day could be exactly that if I either keep it pretty basic and loose, or spend a lot more time on it. The main stumbling point is an idea. But I could "24 hour challenge" that sucker - make up an initial scene and keep going in a spontaneous (i.e. lazy) manner.

I'll stick to my lounge time scribbles for now, and ponder.

Sketch Book Dump — Part 4 of 4

Now we're all up to date. All drawings scanned in and accounted for! My favourite from this bunch is the Roller Derby girl in the 2nd picture. A Jammer no less!

Day 11 — Cavalcade of Consternation

Today I was trying to do a bit more cartoony, a bit more stylised. Trying to experiment, but it ended up not much different that my usual stuff, only messier and malformed. Might persevere and try again in one of the many days to come. Maybe using a felt-tip pen or a thicker marker, instead of my biro. Less sketchy, more decisive!

Let's see what tomorrow brings!

Sketch Book Dump — Part 3 of 4

More sketch book stuffings. I particularly like the Twi'lek Jedi on the last page (this was during my Star Wars — The Old Republic period), even though there's a hovering lightsaber in the way.

Day 10 — Even Cowgirls

Man I suck at hands. MORE practice. Well, maybe after 365 or so daily drawings we'll see some improvement! That's what one of my goals is, at any rate. Need to do some challenging things rather than ending up with poses I'm sure I've done before. Like that OzComics weekly thing on Facebook, Illustration Friday, or whatever "drawing jams" are underway.

Or some sort of themes! July is "Draw Bits of Fruit Month". Nah, probably not that. I should try more stuff with backgrounds too. Or architecture. Or just make it up as I go along. Yeah.

Sketch Book Dump — Part 2 of 4

Cop some more ye olde sketchbooke!

Day 9 — Goliath Barbarian Woman

As you may know from previous drawings, I have some fondness for Dungeons and Dragons, and this is a drawing of a Goliath Barbarian. Maybe a Goliath Ranger? An excuse to draw abs and other muscles and not cover them up with armor at any rate. Goliath are akin to giants, over 7 feet tall and fairly ripped. Their markings are meant to be more mottled than tribal tattoo looking - I only just looked that up now.

But I spent hours on this one, and I'm quite happy with it, which means I'm fairly confident I'm not going to be satisfied with whatever I draw tomorrow. But tomorrow me can suck eggs.

Sketch Book Dump — Part 1 of 4

Well, I think there's about 4 parts worth of sketch book innards. Haven't tidied them all up yet (cropping, rotating, adjusting levels). Anyway, cop the following:

Day 8 — Hoverbikes

One of my failed attempts for Day 7 was a Space Pirate lady on a hoverbike. The problem was the hoverbike. So I thought I'd draw hoverbikes.

I sure do say hoverbike or hoverbikes a lot.

Hoverbikes.

Oh! And hey! I passed my one week mark! Next milestone, a month's worth of drawings! Let's go for GOLD!

And extra hey! Between my Nylson the Gnome picture and Day 1, I was still drawing, but not much. I spent some time today scanning my other, bigger, older sketch book, and I'll post a sketchbook dump soon, so we're all caught up. And so I don't try to pass an old drawing off as a new daily one. I'm crafty like that and we must put a stop to me.

Day 7 — Rhi Corsette

Left my drawing pad at work! Got a bucket load of paper at home though. Obviously. I tried to start 3 different drawings tonight. Nothing was coming together. This was attempt #4. And... I ran out of space.

Let's see what tomorrow brings!

Day 6 — I want to play games

I wanted to play Dungeon Siege III but I hadn't done my drawing yet for today!

So I rushed this, and I'm not very happy with it. See the black splodges? That's the manifestation of shame and guilt for not giving it my all! Or it's the bleed through from Day 4's craziness.

Monday, June 4, 2012

Day 5 — Get down from there young lady!

Note to self: When you only have about 90 minutes to do your daily drawing, don't decide on a FOREST SCENE. Stupid leaves. Ended up doing a lot of squiggles and big black bits. Very incomplete, but it qualifies as a drawing, and not the stick figure I almost settled on after staring at a blank page for 10 minutes.

See you tomorrow!

Day 4 — Handicap

I'm not very good at hands. I thought I'd use this Drawing a Day stuff to practice and show you all how not very good at hands I am. You're welcome.

Saturday, June 2, 2012

Day 3 — Abs McFitterson

Drawing from a photo reference - not super happy with it, but it's a drawing! And it's been done! Today.

Friday, June 1, 2012

Day 2 — Merisiel, half-elven mage, Axe McSquatty et al.

I have a Pathfinder RPG wallpaper on my computer and found myself drawing Wayne Reynold's Merisiel - elf rogue. Only after spending a while copying her outfit from his drawing I stopped and made myself draw other stuff. Non-copied stuff!
